Jen had brought a huge tub full of wooden boards, canvases, and picture frame samples. I picked out a board with a large knot hole in it and a frame sample that looked like a woodpecker had spent some time with it. After trimming off the end of the board with a chop saw, I nailed the frame sample to the board. Now I have a house – what to do with it?
\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-455\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house1-248x300.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/>
\nAmong the items I had brought with me were a silverplate ladle which I always wanted to use as a platform for a bird’s nest. I drilled a hole in the handle and attached it to the house.
\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-456\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house2-229x300.jpg 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>
\nInto the ladle, I placed some raffia and a resin bird ornament that I had redone with paint and gilder’s paste.
\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-459\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house6.jpg 990w, https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house6-300x236.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>
\nIn the knot hole I tucked a tiny frozen Charlotte doll I purchased from Anne Beach during the retreat. Anne sells her wonderful things on Etsy – BeachFleaMarket<\/a>.
\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-458\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"777\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house5.jpg 728w, https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house5-247x300.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>
\nTo finish I added the words from Neil Diamond’s “Be” from Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I printed the words then tore them apart and added some distress ink before attaching them to the roof.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-457\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house4.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/house4-300x256.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>
\nIt was a wonderful weekend. I learned so many new techniques, but more important, I learned so much about myself and my artistic voice. Thanks Jen and all the women who attended. We really must do it again sometime.
\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-441\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/signature.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"136\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/signature.png 429w, https:\/\/blog.elizabethtaylorstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/signature-300x95.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Our last day of retreat was Sunday and we focused on assemblage pieces.
